The gasification stage of the two-stage gasifier is a key step in the entire coal gasification process. Its main goal is to further convert the CO/H2 mixture into high-quality syngas. This stage is usually divided into two sub-stages: high-temperature gasification and low-temperature gasification, each sub-stage has different temperatures and reaction conditions.
The following are some important aspects regarding the gasification stage of the two-stage gasifier:
1. High-temperature gasification: High-temperature gasification usually occurs in a device called a gasifier, and the temperature is usually between 1000°C and 1600°C. At high temperatures, CO and H2 in coal gas begin to undergo a series of gas phase and surface reactions with water vapor (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) to generate more CO and H2 gases. The goal of this stage is to increase the H2 content of the syngas and reduce the content of impurity gases.
2. Low-temperature gasification: Low-temperature gasification is an extension of high-temperature gasification and is usually performed at a lower temperature. At this stage, the gas in the gasifier is cooled and purified to further reduce the content of carbon dioxide and other impurity gases. In addition, low-temperature gasification also helps improve the stability of syngas and reduce solid particles in water vapor.
3. Gasification media: In the gasification stage, some solid gasification media, such as cinders, ores or metal oxides, are usually used to help catalyze the gasification reaction and disperse the heat in the gas. This helps increase reaction efficiency.
4. Reaction control: Accurate temperature and pressure control of the gasification process is critical. This can be achieved through appropriate control systems to ensure that the reaction proceeds under optimal conditions.
5. Gas production quality: One of the main goals of the gasification stage is to improve the quality of syngas. This includes increasing H2 content and reducing carbon dioxide and other impurity gases. High-quality syngas is suitable for a variety of chemical processes and fuel preparation.
6. Waste heat recovery: The heat generated in the gasification stage can usually be used to preheat raw materials or generate steam to improve energy efficiency.
The gasification stage of a two-stage gasifier requires accurate engineering and operational control to ensure high-quality syngas production. This syngas is commonly used in the chemical industry for a variety of applications including synthetic fuels, chemical production and electricity production.
